Holiday Stroll book signing: Lorna Milne

Nov 10, 2019 | Events

Helena author Lorna Milne will visit Livingston’s Elk River Books during the downtown Holiday Stroll to sign copies of her new biography, Evelyn Cameron: Photographer on the Western Prairie, on Friday, Dec. 6, from 5:30 to 8:30 p.m.

The biography uses diaries and letters to reconstruct Cameron’s life in the harsh Eastern Montana landscape and show how she became an acclaimed photographer of the people and scenes of the pioneer West. It was selected by the Montana Center for the Book for the National Book Festival’s “52 Great Reads” list.

A review in the Lively Times notes that although writing for a young adult audience, “Milne doesn’t dumb down the language. [Rather,] she uses parenthetical notes to explain arcane tidbits that might not be familiar to present day readers.”

Milne has published essays and short stories in periodicals such as Frontiers: A Journal of Women Studies, The Boston Globe Magazine, The Gettysburg Review, Walking, Orion, Highlights for Children and The Sun. She is a University of Montana journalism graduate who teaches writing and literature at Carroll College. She grew up in Eastern Montana, near the Cameron homestead. This is her first biography.

Elk River Books, a member of the Antiquarian Bookseller’s Association of America, specializes in collectible outdoor, regional and Western history books, and provides a lively venue for southwest Montana’s unique literary community. For more information, call 333-2330.
