Art Walk Book Signing w/ Alenka Vrecek

Alenka Vrecek visits during the August art walk to sign copies of her memoir, She Rides: Chasing Dreams Across California and Mexico.

Alenka Vrecek recounts her epic bicycle trek through the Baja peninsula in her memoir She Rides: Chasing Dreams Across California and Mexico. She will visit Elk River Books during the downtown Livingston 4th Friday Art Walk to sign copies of her book on Friday, Aug. 25, from 5:30 to 8 pm.

She Rides is the story of Alenka’s solo mountain bike trip of 2,500 miles from Lake Tahoe California, along the Sierra Nevada Mountain range, to the southern tip of Mexico’s Baja Peninsula, following remote mountain trails.

The book is “an irrevocably transformational journey of love, hope, courage, and resilience. Alenka tells her story in a voice stripped of self-pity and infused with a good dose of humor. She Rides is a galvanizing wake-up call for anyone who wants to unearth and follow their own deeply buried dreams and reclaim their life.”

Vrecek was born in the mountains of Slovenia, a part of former communist Yugoslavia. She came to America to ski, climb, and study psychology with a backpack and a pair of skis. She lives in Lake Tahoe, and has been a lifelong skier, cyclist, and climber. She was a ski coach and a director of pedagogy for various ski teams, and is also the founder of The Tahoe Tea Company.

Valerie Andrews, author of A Passion for this Earth, calls She Rides, “a universal story of healing, hope, grit, and determination. Alenka’s bike trip from Tahoe to Baja is a heroine’s journey that will hold you in its grip. But it’s also a love story, about knowing what matters most and finding your way back home.”

Elk River Books is located at 122 S. 2nd St. in downtown Livingston. With a curated collection of fine used, rare, antiquarian and new books, as well as prints, maps, ephemera and gifts, it is a treasured destination for book lovers and collectors across the country.
