Yellowstone for Kids book cover imageElk River Books kicks off the downtown Livingston art walk season with a book signing by Allen Morris Jones, author of Yellowstone for Kids: The Story of Our First National Park, on Friday, June 28, from 5:30 to 8 pm.

Yellowstone was set aside way back in 1872, and since then it has become one of the world’s most treasured places. With 24 delightful illustrations created by the author, Yellowstone for Kids not only looks at the park’s history, but its natural history as well. There are stories about first peoples trading Yellowstone obsidian to Indigenous tribes in the East, explorers putting the very first boat onto Yellowstone Lake, and the Army building a fort in Mammoth Hot Springs. There are stories about ancient volcanoes, molten lava heating geysers from deep underground, wolves being reintroduced, and bison coming back from the edge of extinction. No matter how old you are, Yellowstone for Kids is the perfect introduction to our country’s very first National Park.

Jones is a longtime resident of Montana. He has written several books for grown-ups, as well as numerous magazine articles, essays, short stories, and poetry. His first children’s book, Montana for Kids, won the Spur Award in 2019. Along the way, he has worked as a magazine editor, a book editor, and a communications director. He lives in Bozeman, Montana, with his wife and young son.

Elk River Books is located at 122 S. 2nd St. in downtown Livingston. In addition to a wide range of regional authors, the store carries new, rare and collectible books in many genres, including literature, poetry, arts, Western history and outdoors.
